NEW Events Out Now

CALA ARE pleased to announce that we will be hosting two in person seminars focussing on women’s justice in the context of domestic homicide at Garden Court Chambers in June  and  July 2024, 6.30pm

19th June 2024

the first in the series, will focus on current developments in law reform in this area in light of the Law Commission’s current work on defences for victims of domestic abuse who kill their abusers.  The project is considering the use of defences in domestic homicide in light of modern understandings of the effects of domestic abuse on victims and follows the independent review by Clare Wade KC on sentencing in domestic homicide.  CALA is delighted to be joined by Professor Penney Lewis from the Law Commission and Clare Wade KC for this in person seminar that will provide delegates with an insight into proposed law reform affecting women defendants in domestic homicide cases and provide an opportunity for discussion.

11th July 2024

The second event in the series will be focused on how practitioners can best represent women in domestic homicide cases, both at first instance and on appeal.  CALA is delighted to host a specialist panel of three leading women across three disciplines who are experienced in this area.  The seminar will provide delegates with an insight into current legal practice affecting women defendants in domestic homicide cases and provide an opportunity for discussion.

The talks will be followed by questions and networking drinks.
